As a parent, one of the most challenging topics that I have encountered is screen time. It is a hotly debated issue with many conflicting opinions, making it difficult to know what the right approach is.

On one hand, I understand that screens are a part of our lives and an essential tool for learning and development. It is important to have technological skills, and I believe that my children will benefit from being comfortable with computers and the internet.

But on the other hand, I have read and heard from experts who warn of the negative effects of screen time, especially for young children. Some suggest that it can be addictive and have a detrimental impact on brain development and social skills.

So what should parents do? Should we allow our children unlimited access to screens, or should we restrict it entirely?

For me, the answer lies somewhere in between. While I don’t want to demonize screens, I also don’t want my children to be hooked on them and miss out on other important activities like playing, reading, or spending time in nature.

That’s why I’ve developed my own approach to screen time that works for my family. For babies and toddlers, I don’t allow any screen time at all. I want them to have the freedom to explore their own independent world and develop their own play.

As my children get older, I have gradually introduced screens into their lives. I use Netflix and YouTube and make sure that the shows they watch are of high quality and appropriate for their age.

However, I also limit the amount of time they spend on screens and make sure that they are not using them as a way to escape from their own thoughts and feelings.
